EDITORS’ NOTES

Joe Strummer is now a legend. Even if he'd only been a member of The Clash, his legacy would be complete. However, Strummer found his second wind with The Mescaleros, and the group's musical adventurism took him to places the latter-day Clash suggested he'd find. Strummer's three Hellcat albums—Rock Art and the X-Ray Style, Global a Go Go, and Streetcore—are featured, along with more than 20 bonus tracks, consisting of b-sides, live cuts, and dub versions of his tunes. The b-sides show Strummer's great range of interests, including covers of Jimmy Cliff's "The Harder They Come," The Specials' "Rudi, a Message to You," and The Ramones' "Blitzkrieg Bop," plus live versions of reggae tunes The Clash was known to perform ("Armagideon Time," "Pressure Drop"). The 2002 concert (which turned out to be Strummer's second-to-last appearance) includes on-fire performances of Mescaleros material and a healthy dose of Clash classics, including Mick Jones (!) joining Strummer for the encore of "Bankrobber," "White Riot," and "London's Burning."
